Accessibility statement
Explorentia is committed to making its public website usable by everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or high-contrast settings. This statement describes where the site stands against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA.
Conformance status
The website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA: it is designed and built to the standard, and the parts that do not yet fully conform are listed below under known limitations.
How we tested
- Every page of the site, in English and in Greek, checked with automated testing (axe-core) against the WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 Level A and AA rules, with no violations found.
- Colour contrast measured for every colour pairing the design uses, including semi-transparent and gradient surfaces.
- Keyboard operation of the navigation, menus, maps and cookie banner checked by hand.
- Pages checked at 320 pixels wide, equivalent to 400% zoom, for content that would require horizontal scrolling.
What the site provides
- Text contrast of at least 4.5:1, and 3:1 for focus indicators and control boundaries.
- A visible focus ring on every link and button, and a link to skip straight to the main content.
- Pages that can be zoomed and reflow on narrow screens.
- Animations that stop within five seconds and are switched off when the device asks for reduced motion.
- Each page marked with its language, and untranslated passages marked as English so screen readers pronounce them correctly.
- A text list of every point shown on a map, and buttons to move the map without dragging.
Known limitations
- Street names and labels inside the interactive maps come from a third-party map service as images, so they cannot be enlarged independently or read by a screen reader. Every point on a map is also listed in text on the same page.
- Some content supplied by communities is currently available in English only while translations are completed. It is marked as English on Greek pages.
- Testing with the VoiceOver and NVDA screen readers is scheduled. Its findings, and any fixes, will be recorded on this page with their dates.
